SPECIALIZATION:

WHY I TRAIN:
I opened Aire Urban to create a unique fitness destination in downtown San Diego. Our purpose was to provide the most advanced training and equipment for every kind of client from Olympic-trained athletes to new moms.

My interest in fitness began with Pilates. After suffering chronic back pain from a fall off a horse as a teenager, I was able to completely conquer the injury by working through the classic Pilates programs. My interest then expanded to include other exercise disciplines and state of the art techniques including TRX and yoga.

Today, I bring all those disciplines to customize programs for each client, whether it is in small groups or one on one. The one constant I see with everyone I work with is the desire to improve. Guiding you through the right combination of physical training, motivation and healthy living to reach your personal goals is our ultimate mission. But making sure the process is fun and enjoyable is just as essential.

Special interests: I am also committed to community projects and volunteer at the local Downtown Senior Center.

Pilates Works

The central concept of the Pilates Method is strengthening the core of the body and pelvic floor. These core muscles encompass and support the torso like a corset and every exercise begins there. A personal training program based on Pilates will engage the abdominals and the shoulder girdle, stretching and strengthening the entire body. Because of the steady, deliberate utilization of key areas of the body, Pilates is one of the best personal training systems to rehab stressed muscles and control lower back pain. Whether it’s a slow strengthening or boot camp-level work out, our Pilates individual or group classes are customized for every level of fitness.

Pilates Lasts

A regular Pilates program will:

  • tone and strengthen muscles
  • develop the core muscles
  • improve posture and total body alignment
  • improve balance and coordination
  • increase flexibility and range of motion in joints
  • maintain a supple spine
  • understand & improve proper body mechanics
  • enhance circulation and optimal breathing
  • encourage concentration & mental clarity

History of Pilates

The Pilates Method of body conditioning was developed by Joseph Pilates more than 90 years ago. As a child in Germany, he suffered from a number of physical ailments. Determined to overcome these health issues, he started a lifetime dedication to physical fitness beginning with gymnastics, body building, and skiing. He developed his unique system of exercise while he was detained in a British internment camp during World War I because of his German background. The modern day "Reformer" machine—using spring resistance and sliding carriage—originated in equipment that Pilates created that enabled bedridden imprisoned patients to exercise, developing strength and flexibility using springs taken from their beds. His first “barrel” was allegedly created from a large beer keg. He opened his first dedicated 'Pilates' studio in New York during the 1920s with his wife and partner Clara. Soon the dance community connected with his revolutionary method of exercise and rehabilitation. He boasted George Balanchine and Martha Graham as devotees. Always a model for fitness and good health, he continued to teach and develop equipment and exercises until his death in 1967.

Testimonials

Pilates classes with Jen is for all levels. I have taken time off due to injuries or whatever is going on in my world, and when I start back up she makes sure that I am challenged, keeps it fun, and entertaining. I always enjoy the fact that she works on the areas that you want or need, thanks for the killer arms, shoulders, and backside!
Rocio M.
I have had amazing improvement with my back problem with Jen’s Pilates program. She is a very talented and dedicated professional.
Gene K.
I’ve been taking Pilates from Jen for a couple of years now and I’ve noticed a significant increase in my overall strength, posture and just an improvement in how my body feels in general. Staying consistent with it has helped to reduce residual pains I've dealt with for a long time from a prior shoulder injury, by strengthening the right muscles. When I’m busy at work and am not able to take Pilates for a week or two I notice a that my body just doesn’t feel right… it feels stiff and tight and so I’m always anxious to get back to it!
